ANNOUNCEMENTS TeenLine Hawaii is excited to announce the launch of their updated website, www.teenlinehawaii.org. Visit the website to check out the fun updates and get information on how you can participate in their May activities. TeenLine Hawaii is an information service created in 1993 to give Hawaii's youth access to useful information on a range of youth related topics. Information on a variety of topics that are important to teens is accessible at any time. They are always looking for Peer Educators and Peer Listeners. Please contact Amber at 545-3228 x44 or amcclure@drugfreehawaii.org for more information. AWARDS TO HYSN MEMBERS HYSN members are leaders in their fields. Congratulations to the following award winners: Barry Raff (CEO) and the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood were the recipients of the 2008 APPLE Tree Award. The APPLE (Association of Planned Parenthood Leaders in Education) Tree Award is given to an affiliate whose Board of Directors and president/CEO have demonstrated outstanding support and leadership of the education and training program of their affiliate. Mr. Raff was presented the award at the Planned Parenthood Federation 2008 National Conference in Washington D.C. Nominated by Sonia Blackiston, Director of Education and Training, Mr. Raff and the board are praised for their support in taking the fledgling education department to a one person (part-time) to a one person (full-time) and two full-time staff and two interns a semester in less than two years. Linda Rich, Executive Director of Salvation Army Family Treatment Services, will be honored as an "Outstanding Executive" at the Third Annual Mental Health Mahalo Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 22, 2008. She has pioneered in providing critically needed residential treatment for substance abusing mothers while offering mental health services for their infants and young children, the only program of its kind in the state. Hawaii Student Television (HSTV) has received several awards to date. HSTV has received the National Student Television Award for Excellence (NSTV AWARDS) for the second year in a row. HSTV's ANTI-DRUG promotional video created for Hawaii Foster Youth Coalition funded by a grant from the Mayors Anti-Drug Task force won first place in the national 2008 NSTV AWARDS "Arts & Entertainment" category. This PSA production featured Blake Lanoza, Malia Malufau, and Jocelyn Cara Conoly, talking about the painful impact of drug abuse by their parents and pleading with listeners to stay safe from drugs, protect the family and yourselves. HSTV's Safe Sleep Hawaii Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) 5 minute promotional video created for the Department of Health Child Wellness Program/Maternal and Child Health Branch, won first place in the Western Regional 2008 NSTV AWARDS competition. HSTV was also recognized for Best Student Television Commercial at the 2008 Pele Awards Competition produced by the American Advertising Federation. A plaque was presented to HSTV for their production of Hulihee Palace fundraising video for Daughters of Hawai`i. HYSN STARTS ITS FIRST E-NEWSLETTER As a new service to its member organizations and intensive partners, HYSN now writes and distributes its own e-newsletter.
